Telecommunications provider Northwestel reported telephone, internet and long distance services had been disrupted over the weekend after fibre optic lines were damaged.

The city said the declaration will ensure the community 'can exercise precautionary practices and acquire the equipment and resources needed to keep Yellowknife safe.'
