"We wanted students to have the opportunity to take action and to really think and be contemplative and connect to stories of residential survivors," a teacher told Global News.

The memorial design will be circular, symbolizing the cycles and seasons of life. A smudge bowl will also be installed in the front of a stone for ceremonial purposes.
