Despite efforts to save it, on Thursday the emergency department at the hospital site in Minden, Ont., closed, with services are being consolidated with the site in Haliburton.

A petition with more than 17,100 signatures was brought to the Ontario legislature on Wednesday to fight the June 1 planned closure of the ER in Minden.
