Alzheimer’s disease is currently detectable up to five or six years before diagnosis, but research suggests the brain's degeneration may start up to 10 or 20 years earlier.

January is Alzheimer's awareness month and while research has still not produced a cure, scientists are developing therapies to slow the disease's progression and tools for early detection.
