The Saskatchewan government wants more control over immigration to help meet their target of growing the province's population to 1.4 million by 2030.

On Wednesday, Simon Jolin-Barrette announced he would include a grandfather clause to allow those currently in the program to stay, even if they don't meet the new requirements.

The Experience Program is designed to encourage students and skilled workers to remain in the province, but many say the changes force applicants to move.

That's 40,000 more than it expects to admit this year, and nearly one per cent of the country's population.

MacLeod, who is Ontario's minister responsible for immigration, said Hussen called her "un-Canadian" and tried to intimidate her into ceding to the federal government's line on funding for refugee support services.

The 36-year-old Stateless Palestinian from Lebanon was diagnosed with advanced Stage 4 colorectal cancer shortly after he arrived in Canada late last year.

His request was turned down once already but his lawyer and doctors are now calling on the immigration minister to make an exception out of compassion.

A family from Guatemala now living in Edmonton has been told they will be deported in July. The parents are pleading with immigration officials to review their case.
