Edmonton city council has voted to use money from the proposed police budget to support women's shelters across the city.

A women's shelter dedicated to helping women and children escape violence and abuse will reopen after being closed for a year.

Win House III, which was forced to close its doors last month due to a funding shortfall, has turned down City money that would allow it to temporarily reopen. It it hoping to instead secure long-term, sustainable funding.
