Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg, who was a key figure in the city's COVID-19 response, has announced his retirement. 

Toronto officials are urging the province to come up with a coordinated plan for shelters during the coronavirus pandemic, after two recent incidents involving regional hospitals and people experiencing homelessness.

Chief Matthew Pegg said that over the course of the year, Toronto Fire Services responded more than 300,000 times to approximately 132,000 incidents.
