Organizers officially closed Camp Pekiwewin on Saturday but some remained at the site Tuesday morning and said they had no intention of leaving.

The city has ramped up efforts to address the homelessness issue in recent weeks after large encampments were established in the Rossdale and Old Strathcona areas.

Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson said the city is calling on the federal government for support to "quickly acquire" existing locations like hotels and motels in order to address homelessness in cities across Canada before winter arrives.
