Sonya Massey had called 911 to report someone prowling near her home when she was shot and killed by one of the police officers sent to help her.

Atatiana Jefferson was watching her 8-year-old nephew when she was killed early Saturday while police checked on the home after a neighbour called a police non-emergency line to report that the front door was open.

Friends and family held a vigil Sunday night for the woman, whom relatives identified as Charleena Lyles, according to media reports.
