After months of delays, a new shelter for women officially breaking ground in Airdrie Thursday.

To celebrate her second anniversary of leaving an abusive relationship, Keri Looijen hopes to raise $10,000 for the stalled Airdrie P.O.W.E.R. women's shelter.

Airdrie P.O.W.E.R. (Protecting Our Women with Emergency Resources) was supposed to open later in April, but the facility’s construction was halted when it was discovered the current design wouldn't meet commercial codes.
