In 1993 CHEX TV2 was launched and began originating local news and information programming. In February 2004, the station was rebranded as CHANNEL 12 with a fresh new look, logo and colours.
CHANNEL 12 became Global News Durham in October 2016. Global Durham is proud to be part of Durham Region and has been serving the community since 1993. Global Durham is the only local originating television station in the region and, as such, has taken on a leadership role in supporting this community. This station promotes and covers hundreds of events each year through Discover Durham and Community Cruiser. Global Durham’s staff is dedicated to the Durham Region and volunteer at various charitable and community events and actively participate on planning committees.
On April 13, 2000, CHANNEL 12 became part of Corus Entertainment Inc.
