Max Martini joins cast of ‘Fifty Shades’

TORONTO — Max Martini has signed on to play Christian Grey’s bodyguard in the movie adaptation of the erotic bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey.

The 43-year-old actor will play Jason Taylor in the film, which starts shooting in Vancouver in early December.

Martini appeared in Captain Phillips and in the made-in-Toronto film Pacific Rim.

Fifty Shades of Grey — which is currently using fake title The Adventures of Max and Banks — stars Jamie Dornan as Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anatasia Steele.

The cast includes Luke Grimes as Grey’s brother Elliot, Eloise Mumford as Steele’s best friend Kate, Jennifer Ehle as Steele’s mother Carla and Victor Rasuk as Steele’s friend José.

Fifty Shades will shoot until Feb. 24. It is scheduled to be released Feb. 13, 2015.

Also filming this winter in Vancouver is the World of Warcraft movie, tentatively titled Warcraft (but currently using the fake title Lost in Gastown).

Directed by Duncan Jones, who made 2011’s Source Code in Montreal, Warcraft is set to shoot from mid-January to May.

Night at the Museum 3, starring Ben Stiller, is scheduled to begin production in Vancouver in mid-January.
