A homicide investigation has been launched after a man was killed in a hit-and-run in downtown Toronto late Tuesday.
Toronto police said emergency crews responded to the area of Sherbourne Street and Queen Street East at 10:51 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Police said the pedestrian died at the scene and that the vehicle involved fled.
Paramedics told Global News the victim was a man.
In an update, Toronto police said their homicide squad is now investigating the incident. The man’s death marks Toronto’s 40th homicide of 2023.
How the victim, who hasn’t yet been identified, ended up on the road and the involvement of the driver “forms the preliminary part of the investigation,” police said.
Officers described the vehicle involved as a silver four-door sedan and asked that anyone with information contact police.
