RED LAKE, Ont. – Police in northwestern Ontario have officially identified five people who died earlier this month when a Bearskin Airlines flight crashed while approaching Red Lake airport.
Ontario Provincial Police say the two pilots killed in the crash were Aniruddh Sawant, 25, of Mississauga, Ont., and Peter Traczuk, 34, of Winnipeg.
The three passengers who died – Anna Johannesson, 53, Peter Struk, 53, and 64-year-old Sharron Taylor – were all from Red Lake.
Two other people – a 50-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, both from Winnipeg – survived the crash with non-life threatening injuries.
Bearskin Airlines Flight 311 went down just shy of the airport in Red Lake on the evening of Nov. 10 and burst into flames.
The 29-year-old man, who is a co-pilot with Bearskin, is credited with pulling the 50-year-old woman from the wreckage before it caught fire.
The Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the cause of the crash.
The plane’s two black boxes, one that records voice communication and the other which records flight data, have been sent to laboratories in Ottawa for analysis.
