New mobile app a big plus for cattle producers

A southern Alberta couple has developed a mobile app that stores all the records cattle producers need to maintain their operation.

Jake and Tanya Meyer, the young owners of Meyer Cattle south of Lethbridge, developed iCalve after discovering there was no similar app on the market.

“That includes calving, record death losses, treatment records, cull lists and all of your basic dates and inventory for managing your herd,” says Jake Meyer. “Having the information in your pocket much handier than always referring to books.”

The couple researched what they wanted in the app, developed a solid business plan and then worked with a developer in India to code it.  Meyer says the iCalve app is simple to use; it was developed for ease of navigation and simplicity maintaining records.

As they were developing the app, the Meyers discovered a lot of producers who wanted one, and after being on the market for only a couple of weeks, it’s drawing international attention.

“We’ve got some really good uptake over it,” says Meyer.  “We’ve had a few buyers in the U.K. already and a lot in the States.  The main cattle producing countries are the market we’re going after.”

The iCalve app is available at the App Store or at icalve.com.
