Suspected case of human trafficking in Montreal under investigation

MONTREAL – A dozen people were reportedly discovered in a container at the Port of Montreal about 1 a.m. Thursday, in a possible case of human smuggling or trafficking.

The container belongs to a company called Termont-Montreal, according to a Port of Montreal worker who did not want to give his name.

The last ship to unload cargo at the company’s pier docked in Montreal on Oct. 5.

Port of Montreal guards turned away several members of the media and referred them to Canada Border Services Agency.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police were involved, but later Thursday morning, an RCMP spokeswoman declined to comment.

She referred all calls to CBSA where a spokeswoman said the agency was still trying to determine whether she could confirm the report.
