Suspected mobster Giuseppe De Vito captured by police

MONTREAL РAfter spending nearly four years on the lam, Giuseppe De Vito is expected to make his first appearance Tuesday on drug trafficking charges in connection with Project Colis̩e.

De Vito was arrested just before noon on Monday in St. Léonard by members of the Montreal police anti-gang squad. They were acting on information they recently received, said Montreal police Constable Yannick Paradis.

The arrest ends one of the most high profile searches for people charged in Project Colisée, an extensive investigation into the Montreal Mafia and its associates. De Vito’s disappearance drew significant attention when his two daughters were found dead inside the family’s luxury home in Laval.

Adele Sorella, De Vito’s wife, has since been charged with murdering their daughters and is currently awaiting a trial.

While they were searching for De Vito, investigators had a couple of signs he was alive and in hiding but details behind how they knew this can not be published due to a publication ban placed on Sorella’s bail hearing.

De Vito is expected to make his first court appearance at the Montreal courthouse Tuesday afternoon.
