WATCH: People in the London area are shoveling out after the first major snow storm has hit Southern Ontario.
TORONTO – As snow, wind and snow squalls blow across southern Ontario, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of the GTA.
The special weather statement advises residents of the GTA to be aware that wind chill values are in effect as the cold front blows through the area. Snow squalls are also possible.
The squalls affected parts of southern Ontario including London, Guelph, and Barrie throughout the day. Newmarket, Aurora and Richmond Hill also experienced some snow squalls.
Overnight, Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton can expect the tail end of the squalls that are blowing in off Georgian Bay.

The squalls are produced from a cold front that is bringing in a chilly airmass and wind gusts of up to 60 km/h. The gusts are creating a wind chill over -20 C.
Wind chill warnings haven’t been issued as the temperatures haven’t met the criteria of -40 C. However, as it is the first significant dose of wind chill this season, Environment Canada decided to issue the special statement instead.
Motorists are urged to use caution on the roads. During snow squalls, driving conditions can deteriorate very quickly.
