RVs still an option for Grey Cup accomodations

REGINA – “This is where the magic happens when the old lady is here, but it’s a guy’s trip for Grey Cup,” said Calgarian Bryce Pruden beside his bed as he gave a tour of his RV.

Pruden, who says he was “kind of forced to camp” due to the lack of available hotel accommodation, is one of hundreds of out-of-towners using RVs to call Regina home for the Grey Cup weekend.

Kings Acres Campground, which pegs itself as Regina’s closest campground, is seeing a 30-RV spike during what is normally a less popular month for camping.

“The atmosphere is very exciting,” said the campground’s office clerk Diane Weir-Wagg. “They’ve come from a long ways. A lot of them have come from other provinces.”

Evraz Place’s RV park was another hotspot for visitors, including Blake Gill, another Calgarian visitor, who also set up a tent among three other RVs his friends were using. The tent included a wood stove, which helped satisfy his friends’ penchant for grilled cheese sandwiches, along with drinks, snacks, and a music player.

“It’s just a wonderful place to get together with friends and people we haven’t seen in a long time,” he said, sitting on one of the several lawn chairs.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders battle the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 101st Grey Cup tomorrow.
