HALIFAX, NS – A military policeman has been committed to stand trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court on a charge of aggravated assault.

Christopher Michael Vining, 24, of Timberlea appeared in Halifax provincial court Monday for the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry.

Judge Bill Digby ordered Vining to appear in Supreme Court on Oct. 21 to begin the process of setting dates for his judge-alone trial.

Vining was off duty when he allegedly got into a fight with a man in downtown Halifax on Feb. 28.

Sean LeBlanc was seriously injured after he fell and hit his head.

Police have said the men did not know each other.

Vining was suspended from active police work at Canadian Forces Base Halifax following his arrest.

Under the terms of his release, he has to follow a court-ordered curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., unless he is working or dealing with a medical emergency, and isn’t allowed to consume alcohol or drugs.
