A police cruiser was involved in a two-vehicle collision in Peterborough, Ont., early Thursday.
Just after midnight, emergency crews responded to reports of a T-bone collision on Charlotte Street at Rubidge Street involving a Peterborough Police Service cruiser and an SUV.
According to police, the officer was entering the intersection when it was struck, causing the cruiser to spin and strike a nearby pole. Police say the incident was captured on the cruiser’s in-camera.
The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre and later released.
Police blocked off area roads for the investigation and cleanup.
Later Thursday, police say a Peterborough man was charged with failing to stop for a red light under the Highway Traffic Act.
Police noted the cruiser sustained “heavy damage” and has been removed from the service.
