Members of a South Okanagan neighbourhood have launched a petition against Fortis BC.
This petition’s goal is to reduce the visual impact of massive steel power poles along the east side of Shaka Lake, which are part of a Fortis BC power upgrade.
Residents gathered at Painted Rock Winery in Penticton on Sunday to sign the petition.
The petition will be made available for signing in the winery’s tasting room this week.
Residents say they are shocked by how obvious and reflective the poles are, and they are urging the company to paint them so they blend into the hillside.
Fortis says the poles will dull over time and that there are no future plans to camouflage them.
