Pot protesters rally in Kelowna

A group of Okanagan residents gathered in front of MP Ron Cannan’s office in Kelowna on Saturday to protest a bill that would impose mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders.

Saturday’s rally was just one of many rallies being held across the country to protest Bill S10.

Under the proposed law, anyone caught producing more than six marijuana plants will face a mandatory minimum sentence of six months in prison.

Kelowna Cannabis Knowledge Coalition leader Robert Nesbit said Canada doesn’t need to pass another law that would only increase the number of people in jail.

Nesbit also said marijuana should be legalized to avoid such problems since the bill would cost taxpayers billions of dollars to enforce.
