Police say the motorcycle mounted the concrete island and he was thrown from the bike at high speed.

He hit a road sign on Crowchild Trail while the motorcycle continued to slide away from him.

He was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition and died several hours later.

Police believe excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash.
