REGINA – The year was 1995.

The parties at the first Grey Cup ever hosted in Regina were just as loud and fans were just as excited as they are in 2013.

But at the yearly coming together of football fans nation-wide, a love story began between Cindy Boehmer and Tim Moffatt.

“We met at one of the hospitality suites when I was volunteering,” said Boehmer. “The rest was history.”

The introduction came from Moffat’s uncle, who keeps memories from ’95 with him to this day in a small book, which includes a note from Boehmer.

She, a Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, lived in Regina. Moffat, a Hamilton Tiger Cats supporter, was visiting from Vancouver.

The long distance relationship was ignited by the game.

“We did some meetings, vacations together, Grey Cups,” Moffat said. “Finally, she came out to Vancouver in 1999.”

14 years later, the couple still finds a way to the Grey Cup, keeping up friendships that last a lifetime.

“It’s not necessarily about the game, it’s about meeting people from across Canada.”

“So many wonderful people you’d never have the opportunity to meet, but you have that common bond with football.”

As for chances of playing matchmaker for someone else at this year’s Grey Cup?

The couple wouldn’t rule it out, saying it’s the party that determines what happens.
