Six people have been taken to hospital after a carbon monoxide poisoning at a Toronto construction site, police say.
Toronto police said the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 1:26 p.m. in the Yonge Street and Cummer Avenue area.
Police said medics and fire personnel were assisting men working on a construction site.
A tweet said there “appears to be ventilation issues with exhaust from machinery,” adding there were “multiple patients.”
In an update after 5 p.m., Toronto paramedics told Global News a total of 12 patients were assessed at the scene and six were taken to hospital.
Five of those transported were in stable condition, while one was in serious-but-stable condition.
Emergency services initially said seven people were taken to hospital, later clarifying it was six.
Toronto Fire said construction crews were using a gas-powered appliance in a confined area, adding that carbon monoxide in the air rose to a dangerous level.
Fire crews ventilated the area and brought in fresh air.
Officers said to expect delays in the area.
In an email to Global News, the Ministry of Labour said it had been notified of the incident.
According to the ministry, the employer is Fieldgate Construction Management Ltd.
The ministry said an inspector has been assigned to the case.
