One man dead after shooting in Coquitlam Sunday night, IHIT called in

The Integrated Homicide Investigation team continues to probe a Sunday night shooting in Coquitlam that left one man dead. Christa Dao reports – Jul 3, 2023

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in after a man was shot and killed in Coquitlam Sunday night.

The condo complex, located at Foster Avenue and North Road, remains covered in yellow police tape Monday as officers comb the scene for any evidence.

Calls came in just before 9:30 p.m. after residents said they heard loud noises and the sound of a car speeding away.

“Officers located a man suffering from gunshot wounds and immediately began lifesaving measures,” Coquitlam RCMP said in a statement.

“The man later succumbed to their injuries on scene,” RCMP added.

“The investigation is in the evidence-gathering phase. This shooting is believed to be an isolated incident.”

RCMP confirmed the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in.

Police have not said if this shooting is connected to ongoing gang activity across B.C.

Witnesses told Global News they heard multiple shots Sunday night.

“I thought they were fireworks because yesterday was Canada Day and I thought people were just celebrating. Then the cops pulled up,” witness Vedant Jain told Global News.

Mounties say Coquitlam RCMP Victim Services is engaged.
