Service on Deux-Montagnes line gradually restored

MONTREAL – Service is gradually being restored after thousands of commuters were affected after an electrical breakdown on commuter line to Montreal caused cancellations and traffic chaos.

Passengers are being advised that there will be a reduced number of cars on the trains (from four to two cars) due to ongoing repairs.

The Deux-Montagnes train line is electrically-powered and was the only line affected by the power outage. Several Montreal-bound trains were cancelled, including trains out of Montreal.

A spokesperson from the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) told Global News that 30 extra buses were brought in on Monday morning to help transport stranded commuters, including STM buses and several school buses.

The cancellations and lack of extra back up travel options frustrated many commuters, who took to Twitter to vent their frustration.

A statement on the AMT website noted which trains had been cancelled “due to an electrical problem,” and advised commuters to “Please use local transit services. We thank you for your understanding.”

These travel disruptions come on the heels of serious delays on the AMT’s Vaudreuil-Hudson line during rush hour over a period of several weeks in October.
