Part of a busy road in Kelowna was temporarily closed on Thursday after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle earlier in the day.
The incident happened on Enterprise Way, between Hunter Road and Banks Road, behind Home Depot around 3 a.m.
That section of Enterprise was closed until 2 p.m., as police investigated. During the closure, RCMP asked motorists and the public to avoid the area.
Police say the pedestrian, a 56-year-old woman, was struck by an SUV that had allegedly been seen driving erratically moments prior.
“B.C. Emergency Health Services transported the victim to a local area hospital, where she remains in serious condition with life-threatening injuries,” said Const. Mike Della-Paolera. “Our thoughts are with the victim and her family.”
The investigation is being aided by the RCMP’s Southeast District Collision and Analysis Reconstructionist Unit and B.C. Highway Patrol.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has dash cam video footage to contact the Kelowna RCMP Regional detachment at 250-762-3330 and reference file number 2023-22339.
This is the second incident involving a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the Central Okanagan this week.
On Monday, a senior was struck and killed while walking in the parking lot of Walmart in West Kelowna.
The 82-year-old woman was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Police are still investigating that crash.
