Authorities in the Philippines are struggling to deal with the enormity of Friday’s typhoon.

The feared death toll could surpass 10,000.

Residents of the hardest hit city of Tacloban spent the night under pouring rain, either in what’s left of their homes or in the open along flooded roadsides.
