SALMON ARM – An RCMP officer involved in a fatal crash in Salmon Arm earlier this year could face charges after an Independent Investigations Office review.
Courtenay Brianne Eggen, 21, of Cherryville died after she crashed into a parked truck during a brief police pursuit in June this year.
The mountie was trying to pull her over because she ran through a stop sign. The officer — who was told to stop the pursuit – ended up losing control of his police cruiser and going down an embankment. He wasn’t seriously injured.
IIO Chief Civilian Director Richard Rosenthal forwarded the completed report to crown counsel — the only time this occurs is when investigators believe an officer may have committed an offence. It’s now up to crown to decide if charges should be laid.
