Serious collision involving garbage truck knocks out hydro line in Elgin County, road closed

One person has been charged following a two-vehicle collision in Central Elgin.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of the collision involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial garbage truck on Highbury Avenue. around 10:15 a.m. Friday.

“I’m happy to report that the four occupants of the passenger vehicle were transported to a local hospital with only non-life-threatening injuries,” OPP Const. Brett Phair said in a video posted to Twitter. “The commercial driver was uninjured.”

OPP say Highbury Ave remains closed between Ferguson Line and Truman Line while repairs to damaged hydro lines are completed.

A 57-year-old of Salford, Ont. has been charged with one count of careless driving.
