TORONTO — A video showing former Bronski Beat singer Jimmy Somerville joining a supposed street musician in an acoustic version of “Smalltown Boy” has gone viral nearly two weeks after it was posted.

The one-minute clip, shot vertically on a mobile device, has had more than 1 million views since Oct. 23.

The video shows Jonas Mann of German comedy series Onkel Berni’s Butze performing the popular 1984 gay anthem on a Berlin street when Somerville — seemingly out for a walk with his dog — approaches him and joins in the chorus.

When the song is done, Somerville  jokes: “It’s a hit! It’s a hit!”

The busker says: “Very nice. Thank you very much. Is it you?”

“It’s me,” replies the 52-year-old singer.

The rendezvous was staged by German comedy group Onkel Bernis Welt and posted on its YouTube channel without identifying Mann as the “street musician.”
