The McCann’s disappearance is changing the plans of some who travel and camp by RV.

The Johnston family from B.C. is on a ten day trip through Drayton Valley, St. Albert and Jasper.

Normally on vacation, Karen Johnston leaves her laptop and cell phone at home, but with the McCann’s disappearance she brought them along so she could keep in closer contact with family.

"Probably in a 10, 12,14 day vacation we would have checked back once, whereas now it’s every couple of days." Johnston said "With family we made more arrangements – instead of "one or two days we’ll see you". We had firm times that we would come and see people."

Other campers are taking extra precautions to stay safe too. One woman told Global News off-camera that she never used to lock her doors, now she does.
