UPDATE: Impaired driving charge laid in fatal Red Deer collision

EDMONTON – An 18-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving causing death after a fatal collision in Red Deer early Saturday morning.

The crash happened around 3:30 Saturday morning, in the area of 30th Ave. and 32nd St.

RCMP say an Alberta Gold Taxi was stopped at the intersection when it was rear-ended by a truck.

Officers say the taxi suffered extensive damage in the collision, and the truck rolled onto its side.

There was a passenger in the back seat of the taxi at the time. The man, who has been identified as 33-year-old Jonathon Wood from Red Deer, was pronounced dead on scene.

The driver of the taxi was taken to the Red Deer Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the truck was also taken to hospital where he is being treated for undetermined injuries.

RCMP say weather and road conditions are not considered factors in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing, but 18-year-old Tyler Wilson of Brooks, AB has been charged with one count of impaired driving causing death. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
