Teen, 15, stabbed during ‘targeted’ robbery in Hamilton, Ont.

Police have charged a 16-year-old following a ‘violent street robbery’ which lead to a stabbing in Hamilton, Ont.

Hamilton police say a 15-year-old, walking home from Saltfleet District High School near Highland Road around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, was the victim of an occurence they charcterized as ‘targeted.’

The student was stabbed several times and was transported to a trauma centre in serious condition, according to investigators.

As of Thursday morning he was in critical but stable condition in hospital.

The accused, picked up a short time later by officers, is facing an aggravated assault and robbery charge, say police.

In a letter to families, Saltfleet principal Glenn Cooke said that Hamilton Police had made an arrest in connection with the incident and that they were not looking for any other suspects.

“As a school community, we extend our thoughts to the student and their family and wish them strength in their recovery,” wrote Cooke.

He added that social workers will be made available at the school for any students who need access to support.

Police says an investigation is ongoing and they are seeking witnesses or dashcam and surveillance video from residents.
