REGINA- As the temperature outside drops and we cozy up inside our nice, warm houses, unfortunately, so do the rodents.
Mice are probably the biggest wintertime pest concern; they like to make your home, their home.
Sean Sherwood from Poulin’s Pest Control said mice can sneak in through a hole no bigger than the size of your pinky finger.
Sherwood says if you suspect you have a mouse, cover any holes with metal mesh so the mice can’t get through. He says moving anything providing a hiding place for mice such as debris, piles of leaves or logs from the side of your home will also help.
If you’re looking to set up traps, peanut butter or cotton with a few drops of vanilla extract tied to the trap grabs the rodent’s sniffer and can catch the mice instantly. Bait takes three to five days and can cause other unpleasant problems. “Any of you out there that are looking for bait that makes the mice dry up and not smell, after 28 years, I’m still looking for that bait too,” said Sherwood “You’re not going to fool Mother Nature on death and decay.”
You can’t beat all invading pests, but it’s smart to do what you can, to prevent little unwanted visitors.
