Slick roads contributed to three Wednesday morning crashes in the North Okanagan, one of which Mounties say caused life threatening injuries.
On Highway 6 east of Aberdeen Road in Coldstream at around 6:16 a.m. Wedneday, a westbound vehicle crossed over the center line and was struck by a eastbound five tonne truck, RCMP said.
“The driver of the westbound vehicle sustained serious life threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital. The driver of the truck was uninjured,” RCMP
Highway 6 was closed for a period of time while and RCMP said road conditions were a factor.
Then at 6:24 a.m., there was a single vehicle crash on Highway 97 at Stickle Road.
“The vehicle was southbound and struck road debris causing the drive to collide with the guard rail,” RCMP said. “The driver was uninjured.”
Another single vehicle collision on Highway 97 near Crystal Waters Road happened at around 7: 25 a.m., when a driver lost control on a slippery section and left the road.
“The driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” RCMP said.
Tuesday afternoon saw warmer temperatures melt some of the ice and snow that had recently accumulated. On Tuesday night, another thin layer of snow fell in some parts of the Okanagan valley and temperatures were below 0 C as Wednesday rolled in.
