A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Toronto, police say.
Toronto police said the collision occurred in the Dundas Street West and Spadina Avenue area at around 11:15 a.m. on Monday.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Toronto police Acting Duty Insp. Lori Kranenburg, said a vehicle was travelling westbound on Dundas Street and was turning north onto Spadina Avenue when it struck a female pedestrian.
“She was approximately 70-years-old.,” Kranenburg said. “Police and paramedics responded immediately, but unfortunately, she suffered very serious injuries and has succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced at the scene.”
Kranenburg said anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam or surveillance footage is asked to contact police.
According to Kranenburg, a Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) vehicle was involved in the collision.
“The driver has remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” she said.
Police said the intersection was closed while officers investigated.
In a tweet, the Toronto Transit Commission said it was “aware of a pedestrian fatality involving a non-revenue TTC vehicle at Spadina and Dundas.”
“While we don’t have any information as to cause, or thoughts are with all involved in the wake of this tragedy,” the tweet read. “As always, police have our full cooperation as they investigate.”
