Pot petition going door-to-door

KELOWNA — Sensible BC, the organization proposing that British Columbia hold a referendum to legalize marijuana,  is cranking up its campaign.

Up until now, signatures have been collected at tents set up at various locations across the province.

But the organization says that, in order to collect the necessary number of signatures, canvassers for Sensible BC will be going door-to-door.

“If we’re to meet the numbers demanded by the referendum process in the time remaining, we need to make signing more convenient.  This means bringing petitions to people’s doorsteps,” says campaign spokesman, Mark Conlin of Kelowna.

He says the onset of colder weather and shorter daylight hours will make canvassing door-to-door easier and more effective for volunteers.

The province-wide petition must have the signatures of at least 10 percent of registered BC voters from the province’s 85 ridings in order for the referendum to succeed.
