The City of Calgary has identified about 100 areas along the Bow and Elbow rivers that are in need of repair after June’s catastrophic floods.
The City says damage at six of those sites is ‘critical’. They are:
8 Avenue at 22 St. S.E. in Inglewood
Home Road and 52 St. N.W.,

Memorial Drive at 3 Street N.W.
Diamond Cove S.E.
ENMAX power station in Douglasdale
Memorial Drive at 19 Street N.W .
The City hopes to have all repairs at the critical sites completed by the spring of next year, but repairs on the remaining sites will have to wait.
“More than 35 kilometres of riverbank was severely eroded along the Bow and Elbow rivers,” says Frank Frigo, a planning engineer with Water Services. “It may be a number of years until we are able to complete all of the necessary work.”
Much of the restoration work on the river banks involves stabilizing them with tonnes of rock.
