Tsuu T’ina set to vote on proposed southwest ring road

CALGARY – Members of the Tsuu T’ina First Nation will vote on Thursday on a proposal to allow the southwest portion of the ring road to pass through their land.

Transportation Minister Ric McIver confirmed in September that there was a tentative agreement in place.

The S.W. ring road has been in this spot before. In 2009, Tsuu T’ina chief and band council approved a route and a deal – but band members stunned the City of Calgary by turning it down.

In that vote, sixty per cent of the nation’s members said ‘no’.

The results of Thursday’s vote are expected to be made public on Friday.

Mciver says if the vote goes through, the next stage of planning involves the federal government, and could take anywhere from three weeks to three years.
