Officers said the incident started around 12:30 a.m. when they got a report of a man armed with a knife threatening to harm others.

Police said they tried to negotiate with the 54-year-old man for several hours, but that he refused to comply and that he was acting erratically.

The Tactical Support Unit was deployed, breached the barricade, and used a “less-lethal weapon” against the man.

He was taken into custody. A tactical paramedic assessed the man before he was taken to hospital by Medavie Health Services West.

Police say the incident was resolved and charges against the man are pending.
