SASKATOON – A water main break forced the University of Saskatchewan to close its doors on Monday.

City work crews were making repairs to a water main valve at College Drive and Bottomly Crescent on the weekend when they discovered further leaks in the primary water main.

The break caused the university to experience low or no water pressure in most buildings across the campus.

The university’s crisis management team recommended the suspension of classes and non-critical services for safety reasons.

University President Ilene Busch-Vishniac ordered the campus closed until the situation is resolved.

According to the city’s website, work to replace some of the pipes will take a minimum of two days.

College Drive eastbound is closed between Wiggins and Cumberland Avenues with two-way traffic in the westbound lanes.
