The combination of wet weather and now lots of sun means a jump in the mosquito population.
The province held a news conference Monday to announced additional funding to battle the bug this summer. $85,000 dollars will be going towards Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Estevan, Regina, Weyburn, Yorkton, Melville and Saskatoon. That funding is an addition to the $1.1 million dollars announced last week.
Health Officials also discused ways to protect yourself from contracting the West Nile Virus.
A map will be posted online at www.health.gov.sk.ca/west-nile-risk, the site will have updated information weekly on where the high risk areas are throughout the summer.
Health officials also say wearing insect repellent, protective clothing and avoiding peak times, such as dawn and dusk, can help reduce your chances of getting the virus.
