Quebec sues former lieutenant-governor

QUEBEC – The Quebec government is suing the province’s former lieutenant-governor in an attempt to recoup some of the money she allegedly mis-spent during her 10 years in office.

Premier Jean Charest Tuesday confirmed the government will go ahead with a civil suit against Lise Thibault.

"After examining the facts, and where the money was spent, we obviously came to the conclusion that these amounts of money were owed to the government of Quebec," Charest said in Quebec City. "We obviously believe that we can pursue this matter in front of the courts, with regards to Mme Thibault. It’ll now be up to the courts to deal with this matter."

Charest was not specific, but Radio-Canada reported Quebec will seek a total of $92,000 from Thibault.

The civil suits lands on top of criminal charges Thibault faces. She is charged with fraud, forgery and breach of trust.
