2-year-old girl in stroller fatally struck crossing street in Montreal North

A two-year-old girl was fatally struck by a vehicle being driven by a woman in Montreal North on Wednesday morning.

Police say the mother was crossing the street at Fleury Street near des Récollets at around 9 a.m. with her daughter, who was in a stroller at the time.

A 43-year-old woman was driving an SUV on des Récollets and was making a left-hand turn when she struck the mother and daughter according to SPVM Spokesperson Mariane Allaire Morin.

“The stroller was dragged several meters before the car came to a stop, critically injuring the toddler and causing low-body injuries to the mother,” said Morin.

The two-year-old was taken to hospital where she died. The mother was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver was treated for shock.

Police say alcohol, drugs and speed were not factors in the crash.

It is the 12th fatal collision in Montreal this year.
