Police say upon arrival at the dive site, one person was in medical distress and was brought to shore, where he was pronounced dead. Another diver was rescued and brought to shore for questioning by investigators and one diver was still missing. His body was recovered Saturday by a specialized dive team.
The three men were visiting Nanaimo from Washington State on a chartered “recreational deep dive.” RCMP have not yet released the names of the divers.
“It’s a tragedy on a Thanksgiving weekend,” Sgt. Armstrong said. “We’re going to have to tell one family he’s deceased and another one that he’s presumed dead.”
The case has been turned over to the coroner.
