Public safety and wellness urged on International Walk To School Week

TORONTO –  Organizations across Ontario are taking part in various activities to mark International Walk To School week.

York Regional Police were out in full force Wednesday morning making sure children were getting to class safely.

Officers reminded students where to cross roads lawfully as well as cautioning drivers to use extra care when moving through school zones.

International Walk To School week also promotes active transportation and general fitness.

James S. Bell JM Sports and Wellness Academy will kick off their JSB Walk and Wheel Wednesday Program.

Students will be heading out into the community to map out safe routes to school, doing checklists and using pedometers to calculate number of steps/distance from strategic neighbourhood locations.
