Crews battle Richmond West fire

WINNIPEG — Fire crews battled a blaze at two homes in Richmond West on Monday.

Video from Global’s Skyview1 helicopter showed smoke pouring from a two-storey house at 86 Hawstead Rd. at around 5 p.m.

No one was injured and no one was home at the time of the fire.

The flames caused $5,000 damage to a second home, but the fire department controlled and contained the blaze before it spread even farther.

Damage to the residence where the fire started was estimated at $150,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the arson strike force.

Hawstead Road is a residential street just south of Kirkbridge Park, between Pembina Highway and Waverley Street.
